Summary: The Miyazaki Machine

Summary: The Miyazaki Machine

In the ninth chapter of the book "Hayao Miyazaki, Master of Japanese Animation" which was published by Stone Bridge Press in 1999, Helen McCarthy report on the merchandise of Miyazaki’s production. The author implied that Miyazaki’s productions more than just movies; Miyazaki has been active in a number of other fields, including illustration, comic art, and writing. McCarthy also mentioned that many of the characters he has created have acquired a life of their items of merchandise because of the seeking by fans in Asia, increasingly, in the west. The author reported that Studio Ghibli didn’t ignore the TV area; they also made some TV specials. In the end, the author concluded that, nowadays, his work is moving into new arena, his fans wonder what comes next.

Critique:

In this chaptered, the author explained clearly on the merchandise and other areas of Studio Ghibli, and gave many examples to make it very detailed. However, the author focused on reporting the facts too much; her standpoint makes me somewhat confused. As a reader, I would like to read more opinions from the author, such as, what the problems in this issue are and why it could be controversial.

Hi, Siyan☆ I always enjoy reading your summary because I want to know more about it!!! I think Ghibli's character goods are popular not only for children, but also for adults. However, I think Ghibli did not try to advertise by TV media because mass media was interested in Ghibli...I think that's why Ghibli became familiar to us.

Thank you for the presentation.
The explanation of Miyazaki was enough conducted to get everyone there to understand what it was. Also, the dictation was made use of by you to some extent in order to know the chapter.
In this way, Miyazaki's world was made closer to me.
